I download Sigma Tel audio driver and got back with sound. The computer you’re having issues with is running XP.. Anyway, when I got everything back up almost nothing worked Even after that the sound wouldn’t work. It also works well.
This model and Operating System is not supported by Dell. As you suggested I uninstalled both the sound and modem drivers. I found out why. I then uadio the audio and wah-laaaah- i had sound. After taking your advice, what was different for me was that even though I selected the “remove files” when uninstalling the drivers for my modem and audio, it re-installed them anyway after I rebooted.

Next attempt was to uninstall and delete the driver completely from my computer and then download the latest driver from Dell. System then on the left side click Device Manager then click Action and choose from the list Scan for hardware changes click on it and then the system it’s going to install the drivers automatically and you’re done.
Oh, I use windows vista x86 after I upgraded to ultimate from basic which began to caused the problem. But when I loaded up Windows again, nothing.

I was haveing issues with my sound “no audio output device is installed” so after reading a lot of solutions to the issue i tried the one you suggested and bammm it worked this is how I did it step by step: I uninstalled the sigmatel HD Audio and deleted the driver, then auudio the system. This time it worked!
In other Win OS setups reboot may be required. Disabling the modem and downloading new drivers seems to have repaired the problem.
Everything else is working fine except for the audio. Dell Backup and Recovery. However, if I went to the speaker icon on the bottom right there was a x on the speaker indicating it was not working. akdio

The only change with my problem is that it wasn’t the modem that I had to uninstall. Typically, in the case of this problem, something like “modem line 0 playback” has replaced the proper audio device as the default. Advertisements or commercial links.
