One of the best parts of the I-Buddie 4 is its bkddie. When removed you are faced with a metal shield, this prevents external EMI interference from corrupting the memory at speeds over Mhz so don’t loose this. This allows the liquid to be heated, the heated liquid then flows to the copper fin area where the fan removed the heat, allowing the liquid to remove more heat from the CPU. Though interchangeable, they aren’t hot swappable like most laptops.

While today, it costs you a near fortune to get a good laptop with a 15″ screen, ECS have added such a monster to the I-Buddie 4 without raising the price too much. We can’t be sure why ECS didn’t chose a buddei powerful RPM mobile hard drive for the i-Buddie 4, especially since power consumption is not an issue. Sound out of the system was good but certainly not great and definitely not desktop-like. Wouldn’t it be good if you could just purchase a notebook with the option to upgrade either the memory, processor, hard disk drive or all of them as and when you feel like it?

The switches were mounted below the BIOS chip but we are not sure what they are used for. Since it uses basic desktop parts, the i-Buddie 4 can be upgraded to the same level of performance as your desktop.

The DK23CA buddoe fairly similar to other mobile hard drives we have seen. Shuttle was the first to implement heatpipe coolers in mainstream PC’s with their barebone PC’s for Athlon and Pentium 4. While PS2 ports and COM ports are missing, you hardly need them in this day and age with laptops – everything you need is Firewire or USB, and both are provided onboard. As you can see from the above specs and photo, there is just about all you need. Rather than positioned as a ‘pure’ notebook, the i-Buddie 4 is a desktop replacement, as what we would prefer to call it, “a aidio desktop”.
