If you move the mouse directly over this pixel, a little icon appears like if the middle trackpoint button is used to scroll. Uninstall the hardware driver. OK, finally found the magic sequence. Currently the choice is to configure TrackPoint to scroll properly with middle button pressed using generic “mouse” driver in X. All in all those systems worked perfectly fine when on old drivers, and now But they refuse to fix this or pass it to Synaptics or their driver developers, because Firefox “is not supported”. A Blessed Christmas to one and all. Nor any settings changes.

The classic integrated pointing device in ThinkPads was always a trackpoint. Honestly I personally hate what Lenovo does with updating the drivers. The UltraNav utility shows them both as being disabled, and the option to enable them is grayed out. Run the Lenovo updater to reinstall Ultranav.
